Worksite Accommodations

Worksite accommodations are changes in the job of an individual who encounters problems participating in work activities. The changes may entail redesigning the workplace (engineering solutions) or redesigning the tasks, including assignment of restricted duty (administrative solutions).

The OIOC provides a systematic approach to accommodations, beginning with an evaluation and documentation of the job requirements. The information is then compared to the abilities of the individual. The process makes use of:

  • Insurance company investigation
  • Attending physician's statement
  • Walk-through observations
  • Photographs of the workstation
  • Workstation measurements
  • Compliance with standards such as ANSI or ISO
  • Interview with the insured
  • Consultation with professionals in the field of the client

Whenever possible, we attempt to select off-the-shelf solutions that can be shared with other employees. In many cases the solutions entail "quick-fixes". The OIOC makes use of a network of interior designers, architects and vendors to assist in finding specific products. The selection of solutions involves the client, the supervisor and the case manager of the insurance company. The report contains the following elements:

  • Functional limitations
  • Occupational and ADL impact
  • Goal of accommodation
  • Job analysis
  • Recommendations
