The OIOC's Spine Program is a comprehensive multidisciplinary therapeutic and educational program designed to relieve and prevent back and/or neck pain.
The Spine Program offers patients:
- A thorough physical therapy evaluation that includes a complete history and physical examination focusing on the movement and function of the spine (back and neck) and extremities;
- An analysis of movement patterns, strength, and endurance;
- An individualized exercise program designed to increase strength and flexibility of your back and neck muscles, muscle re-education if needed and, to develop aerobic fitness;
- A proactive approach to physical therapy where the patient works together with the therapist to incorporate the patient’s activities of daily life and job demands into a functional rehabilitation program;
- An ergonomic evaluation and/or instruction in ergonomic awareness designed to improve sitting, standing, and resting positions during work and leisure time; and instruction in the use of various techniques and supportive devices to relieve the stress on the back; and
- Practical and effective alternatives such as stress management, relaxation techniques, breathing techniques, and body mechanics to minimize back and/or neck pain and to prevent future recurrences.
- Direct referral to other specialist in areas such as pain management if needed.
