Obstetrical Scans
- Comprehensive nuchal translucency, nasal bone, and biochemistry (PAPP-A & free beta hCG): performed only between 11 and 14 postmenstrual weeks. Appointments must be made in advance by physician or patient.
- Early detection of fetal anomalies (12 to 16 postmenstrual weeks). Such early scans are particularly useful for obese patients as later transabdominal scans may be less diagnostic.
- Scheduling patients for multifetal pregnancy reductions (special brochure available)
- Reductions are usually done at 12 to 13 postmenstrual weeks to enable prior evaluation of NT and fetal anatomy.
- CVS, if desired, is done at 10 to 12 weeks. Vaginal chlamydia, gonorrhea, GBS cultures, HTK, blood group and Rh must be faxed to us prior to procedure.
- 3D scans are useful to depict fetal surface anatomy, pathology of the brain, limbs, and skeletal malformations. 3D is useful for several gynecologic indications. Please call if unsure about indications before scheduling your patient.
Gynecological Scans
- Elective gynecologic scans, including saline infusion sonogysterophy (SIS), should be scheduled as follows:
- Between 5 to 9 days of any cycle (particularly important for workup of adnexal masses)
- In menopausal patients - anytime
- Emergency scans - anytime in the cycle
- Transrectal scanning of the pelvic organs is offered for virginal patients, patients with vaginal agenesis or senile vaginal changes. This scan is as diagnostic as a transvaginal scan and can be explained to the patient by the referring MD or our department.
