Programmatic
Two types of programs are operative at the NYUCI: CCSG Research Programs and Disease Management Groups. The Research Programs currently form the basic discovery units of the Institute and the CCSG. They meet the full NCI guidelines including benchmarks for competitively funded research and highly interactive, multi-investigator projects. Disease Management Groups focus more on the clinical research interests of the full range of human cancers even if they are not a current, major area of NYUCI laboratory research. Disease Management Groups are critical to the success of the NYUCI. The multidisciplinary team meets to plan, prioritize and successfully implement disease or organ-specific protocols as well as developing systems for banking human samples. Under optimal circumstances NYU investigator-initiated research protocols are expected to be linked to one or more of the Institute's CCSG Research Programs. Disease Groups may meet as more classic multidisciplinary “Tumor Boards” with an additional focus on translational research. Active involvement of more basic scientists is encouraged since the challenges of diagnosis and effective therapy can be appreciated by these investigators. Some Disease Groups are likely to become "Developing" CCSG Research Programs if it is clear that they link substantial basic, translational and clinical research.
Please indicate which Research Program and/or Disease Management Groups you would like to join. Members may be linked to two Programs or Groups but active participation will be expected in each program.
