Pre-clinical alternates will be assigned approximately 2-3 dates during the 16-week free clinic session for which they are “on call.” Pre-clinical alternates are required to keep these dates open and be available to come in until 5PM FRIDAY (the day before).

On-call alternates will be contacted by the team students if they are needed for a given Saturday session. Notice could be anywhere from a few weeks to a few days before the session. If contacted by a team student, on-call alternates are expected to fill in. Failure to come in and serve as a replacement when requested on a date an alternate is on call will result in the alternate's dismissal from the free clinic.

If an on-call alternate has a serious conflict with one of the dates he/she is assigned, he/she must switch with another alternate for a different date. Late Friday nights and upcoming exams are NOT valid excuses for switches. The on-call alternate must email the Student Volunteer Scheduling Coordinator (volunteer@nycfreeclinic.org) the name and dates for the switches by 9AM SUNDAY the week before the switch.

Occasionally, more team students may require a replacement than there are on-call alternates for a given weekend. In this case, the team student will email the general alternate list (freeclinic-floaters@endeavor.med.nyu.edu). Any alternate is welcome to reply and fill in on a first-come, first-serve basis.
