Feb 1, 2006

NEW YORK, February 1, 2006 — The New York City Free Clinic (NYCFC), New York's only comprehensive free healthcare clinic for the uninsured, will hold its first annual Stand-Up for Healthcare Access: NYCFC Comedy Show and Dinner Benefit, Thursday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m., Rosenthal Pavilion at the Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South in Manhattan.

Saturday Night Live alum Colin Quinn, Comedy Central’s Greg Giraldo and actor-comedian Gregg Rogell will co-headline the event, which also features nationally-acclaimed comedians Dwayne Perkins, Todd Lynn, Bobby Tisdale, Aziz Ansari, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Peretti and Claudia Cogan. Tickets are $50 including dinner. Tickets are available by calling NYU Ticket Central at 212-998-4941 or by visiting www.med.nyu.edu/nycfreeclinic.

The all-volunteer NYCFC, managed by medical students at the NYU School of Medicine, is committed to meeting the needs of New York’s uninsured. All proceeds go directly to patient care at the clinic at 16 East 16th Street, which sees patients on Saturdays by appointment from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. The benefit is the NYCFC’s first in its campaign to increase funding to meet the overwhelming demand for services.

Since opening in 2003, the NYCFC has provided free primary and specialty care, laboratory services, patient education, and public insurance screenings for nearly 1,000 New Yorkers. The New York City Free Clinic is able to offer at no cost to its patients fully comprehensive healthcare through strong partnerships with the Institute for Urban Family Health, New York University School of Medicine, New York University Medical Center, and Bellevue Hospital Center.
