15 West - Acute Cardiology Unit

- 35 bed acute cardiology unit, which includes:
- 31 telemetry monitored beds
- 4 step down unit bed
- Patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including but not limited to:
- Myocardial infarction
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Congestive heart failure
- Atrial fibrillation
- Unstable angina
- Dysrhythmias
- Syncope
- AV blocks
- Pre & post pacemaker/ AICD procedures
- Pre - cardiac surgery
- Cardiac interventions (i.e.: cardiac catheterization)
- General medical diagnoses
- Patient care on this unit incorporates the philosophy and mission statement of the medical center which includes: Patient care (clinical practice), education, and research (evidence based practice).
- The care of these patients is a collaborative effort focusing on the treatment and provision of specialized nursing care for the complex cardiac and medical patient.
- The registered nurse delivers care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team with the plan of care mutually determined with participation by family and significant others which is recognized as critical in achieving positive patient outcomes.
- There is an 8-10 weeks orientation period which includes classroom, computer, and clinical education.
