Conditions We Treat

The following is a general list of spinal disease treated with surgery at the Department of Neurosurgery at NYU.

Degenerative Disease
Includes lumbar, cervical and thoracic herniated discs, cervical spondylotic myelopathy, synovial cysts, spondylolithesis, ankylosing spondylitis, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Spinal Tumors
Includes ependymomas, meningiomas, hemangioblastomas, spinal metastatic disease, gliomas, arachnoid cysts, spinal cord syrinx, schwannomas/neurofibromas, and bone tumors.

Spinal Trauma
Includes odontoid and compression fractures, facet dislocation, spinal cord injury, and central cord syndrome.

Spinal Infections
Includes diskitis, epidural abscess, osteomyelitis, and Pott's Disease (tuberculosis).
