Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Education & Research

The Department of Neurosurgery offers expertise in the use of Gamma Knife® radiosurgery for a wide variety of conditions, including acoustic neuroma, arteriovenous malformations, brain metastases, cavernous malformations, chordomas and chondrosarcoma, cranial nerve schwannomas, gliomas and other brain tumors, meningioma, movement disorders, nasopharyngeal cancers, pineal region tumors, pituitary adenomas and craniopharyngiomas, and trigeminal neuralgia.

At NYU Langone Health’s Center for Advanced Radiosurgery our team precisely tracks and targets tumors and uses the versatility of the Leksell Gamma Knife® Icon—the most technologically advanced robotic radiosurgical method available today—to treat conditions previously considered untreatable, improving options and outcomes for the most complex cases.

Under the direction of Douglas Kondziolka, MD, neurosurgery residents and fellows have the opportunity to train with our world-renowned faculty in the use of Gamma Knife® radiosurgery.

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Education

As leaders in the field, we are an internationally recognized center for training and research and we offer professional training courses in Gamma Knife® radiosurgery.

Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Research

Clinical excellence and safety are our highest priorities. A major focus of our research is on clinical outcomes for patients with benign or malignant brain tumors, as well as the development of novel imaging strategies to evaluate radiosurgery outcomes.

We also co-developed and installed the first comprehensive prospective patient registry for radiosurgery outcomes research. Used daily, the registry maintains key data on outcomes to facilitate research. Learn more about our radiosurgery research.
