Brain and Spinal Cord Tumors

Pediatric brain and spinal cord tumor are a major focus of the NYU Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery. In cooperation with the departments of pediatric neuro-oncology (Drs. Jeffrey Allen and Sharon Gardner), radiology, pathology and radiology, patients are evaluated and treated in a multidisciplinary framework, ensuring timely, contemporary and compassionate care.

Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff, the division head, has a special interest and expertise in the surgical treatment of craniopharyngiomas and tumors of the thalamus, hypothalamus and optic pathways. Dr. Howard Weiner continues to investigate, with NIH funded studies, the molecular mechanisms of medulloblastoma formation and growth. He has a large experience in the treatment of subependymal giant cell astrocytoma in the setting of tuberous sclerosis.

Dr. David Harter has continued to develop and refine techniques for endoscopic removal of intraventricular and other pediatric tumors.
