Hydrocephalus, or water on the brain, may result from a variety of underlying conditions. Children may be born with hydrocephalus from a number of congenital malformations.

Treatment may or may not be required and includes endoscopic techniques or shunt placement. With appropriate treatment and follow-up, many individuals with hydrocephalus live normal and productive lives.
