A critical evaluation of any residency program must take into account the career pattern of former residents in the years after their training. Over 90% of our residents are faculty members of academic departments of neurosurgery. This is not an accident and is due to a number of factors:
Our belief is that high-quality and intense clinical training inspires residents to be academically inquisitive to improve their patients' outcomes. This is in contradistinction to more 'academic' programs where extensive research is prioritized over clinical training. These trainees dissociate clinical work from research and tend to go into private practice instead of academics.
