Clinical Neurosurgery Trainees
CME

A critical evaluation of any residency program must take into account the career pattern of former residents in the years after their training. Over 90% of our residents are faculty members of academic departments of neurosurgery. This is not an accident and is due to a number of factors:

  • Intellectually superior and highly motivated residents
  • Careful mentoring of trainees by experienced and nationally prominent role models
  • Research training in neuroscience laboratories of the NYU Medical Center and other prominent institutions
  • The availability of mini-fellowships within the residency which provide our graduates with specialized, state-of-the art clinical skills desired by academic departments

Our belief is that high-quality and intense clinical training inspires residents to be academically inquisitive to improve their patients' outcomes. This is in contradistinction to more 'academic' programs where extensive research is prioritized over clinical training. These trainees dissociate clinical work from research and tend to go into private practice instead of academics.
