Overview of Cerebrovascular Treatment
National and international referrals have established the Division of Cerebrovascular Surgery at NYU as a premier center for the treatment of cerebrovascular disease.
Brain Aneurysms
Brain aneurysms, also called cerebral or intracranial aneurysms, are balloon-like outpouchings of the arteries in the brain.
Giant Aneurysms
Giant intracranial aneurysms account for about 5 percent of all aneurysms, and are arbitrarily defined as having a diameter greater than 25 mm.
Brain Vascular Malformations
Normally, arteries deliver oxygen rich blood to the brain. These blood vessels get smaller in size until they become capillaries.
Cavernomas
Cavernomas are blood filled clusters of vessels that look like dilated veins (caverns).
