Department of Neurology Education

We are at the forefront of 21st century neurological training for residents, fellows, and medical students.

Faculty in NYU Langone’s Department of Neurology are dedicated to outstanding education and training in the practice of medicine and scientific investigation. Our trainees provide care for diverse patient populations in our state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient facilities. Our mission is to train clinically rigorous, board-eligible neurologists; educate medical students in neurology; and nurture clinical and basic neuroscience research.

Our neurology residency program offers two separate tracks, the Manhattan track and the NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn track. Our numerous faculty provide clinical teaching in the many subspecialty areas of contemporary neurology. Residents gain experience with a large inventory of diagnostic technologies, adding to their clinical toolbox to diagnose both routine and unusual neurological disorders. We offer a variety of clinical fellowships following residency to further hone clinical and technical skillsets in a chosen subspecialty. Many of our clinical fellowships offer the option of conducting additional research after clinical training.

Our residents also have the opportunity to participate in clinical and basic research. Our nationally recognized Patient-Oriented Research Curriculum incorporates principles of clinical and basic research to provide a foundation for understanding neurological investigation regardless of career path. Many neurology faculty have active research programs with collaborators in basic neuroscience, neuroimaging, genetics, immunology, data science, and engineering. We encourage residents to leverage this robust environment and undertake scholarly research projects with research mentors. If inclined, residents may apply to our research track. Our program for medical students offers advanced research opportunities with neurology mentors. In addition, our premedical student program provides hands-on research experiences to undergraduates.

Our Divisions of Neuro-Epidemiology and Global Health provide resources, research support, and international experiences for residents, fellows, students, and faculty.
