Shoulder Research Group

The Shoulder and Elbow Research Group, the research component of the Shoulder and Elbow Service, conducts clinical and biomechanical studies on a wide spectrum of shoulder disorders in addition to developing new measurement tools for shoulder research. At any given time, over 30 research projects are at various stages of investigation.

Typical studies include the biomechanical analysis of rotator cuff and instability repairs, new techniques for rotator cuff repairs, outcomes of shoulder arthroplasty, and a comparison of arthroscopic and open techniques in treating shoulder pathologies. These studies provide critical data for optimizing treatment and establishing protocols for a variety of shoulder problems. The Shoulder Research Group Summer Internship Program provides medical students with the opportunity to participate in specific research areas. In addition, NYU-HJD residents conduct ongoing research projects under the guidance of the faculty.
