Breathing is a bodily function that is both under voluntary and involuntarily control. Breathing exercises can act as a bridge into those functions of the body of which we gernerally do not have conscious control, such as blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion and many other bodily functions.
The MindBody Education & Patient Care Program teaches breathing techniques to facilitate these changes within the body for health and well being.
Try this and see notice how you feel, before, during, and after:
1. Choose a word or short phrase that has a relaxing and comforting effect. Examples include words like “peace,” “relax”, “calm”.
2. Breathe in slowly and naturally. As you breathe out, say the word to yourself.
3. Take your time as you breathe in fully and out completely.
4. When other thoughts come to mind, just notice them and return to your word or phrase.
5. Continue this for at least a few minutes, and repeat several times a day.
This technique is easy to use anywhere and anytime. Explore the possibilities!
