My career as a clinical microbiologist began as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Edward J. Bottone at The Mt. Sinai Hospital, NY. Upon the completion of my post-doctoral training, I remained at Mount Sinai Hospital as Assistant Director of Microbiology and was appointed Assistant Professor of Microbiology, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. In 1979 I joined NYU as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Director of Microbiology at the NY Veterans Hospital. In 1982, I came to Bellevue Hospital as Director of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology.
Major Responsibilities: I am presently Director of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology Laboratories, Bellevue Hospital Center. In addition, I am the microbiology module director for the NYU School of Medicine Department of Pathology residency training program in clinical pathology. Currently I am an Editor of Clinical Microbiology Reviews. I am also a member of the Tuberculosis Steering Committee of the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), as well as the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) committee on tuberculosis. I have previously served on the Scientific Program Committee of the American Society for Microbiology's Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC), (2000-2004).
