Figure 3. Preliminary data supporting the "seeding" model for [PSI+] induction. In yeast cells, the newly forming [PSI+] aggregates appear to be attached to the pre-existing [PIN+] aggegates. [PSI+] is induced in a [PIN+] [psi-] strain upon overproduction of the prion domain of Sup35 (fused to yellow fluorescent protein to allow for [PSI+] visualization; shown in red). [PIN+] aggregates are visualized using the cyan flourescent protein (shown in geen).
