Dr. Belasco is a coordinator of the Structural Biology Program at the Skirball Institute and a Professor of Microbiology at New York University School of Medicine. His research focuses on post-transcriptional gene regulation, including mRNA degradation, microRNA function, and RNA-protein recognition.
Education and General Information
Graduate Education: Dr. Belasco received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in 1980.
Postdoctoral Training: After a year of postdoctoral studies in the Department of Chemistry at Harvard (1980-1981), he moved to the Department of Genetics at Stanford University to complete his postdoctoral training (1981-1985).
Academic Appointments: Before coming to the Skirball Institute in 1996, Dr. Belasco was an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School (1985-1996).
