The NYU Department of Microbiology brings together a variety of research areas united by the common goal of understanding the complex relationship between viral or bacterial pathogens and the host.
Our department comprises more than 25 research groups interested in Cytokines, Growth Factors, and Signal Transduction, Mechanisms of Microbial Pathogenesis, Immune Response to Microbial Challenge, Oncogenesis and Cancer Biology, Regulation of Gene Expression, RNA Metabolism, and Virology.
Faculty and their laboratories are located in the Medical Science Building, Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine, Public Health Research Institute, Veterans Affairs Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, Tisch Hospital, and the newly opened Joan and Joel Smilow Research Center.
