Internal Medicine Residency Training Program
Bellevue Hospital Center
[Return to Residency Homepage]

The Bellevue inpatient rotation forms the backbone of our program.
This unique population is unbelievably diverse in terms of pathophysiology. A typical service might have a patient with lupus nephritis, another with endocarditis, a third with congestive heart failure and a fourth with newly diagnosis adenocarcinoma of unknown primary.
The medical service at Bellevue is covered by eight teams, each consisting of a second- or third- year resident, an intern, one or two sub-interns, and two or three medical students. The teams are directly supervised by a hospitalist who provides real-time support in patient care, discharge planning, and teaching.
Most importantly our hospitalists remain acutely aware of house officers' requirement for independent and meaningful patient care responsibility. Formal teaching rounds occur daily and are conducted by the hospitalist and a second subspecialty teaching attending. Hospitalists are available 24/7 for all management issues.
