
Dr. Doreen Addrizzo-Harris is the program director of the NYU School of Medicine Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. She has been on the faculty since 1996 and program director since 2001. She was a medicine resident and chief resident at NYU School of Medicine. She did her fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at NYU/Bellevue. She is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care medicine.
After Dr. Addrizzo-Harris joined the faculty in 1996, she supervised fellows at the Hospital of Joint Disease’s ICU and devoted the majority of her time at Bellevue Hospital teaching bronchoscopy. She is now an active member of the teaching faculty supervising both the Bellevue and Tisch Hospital Pulmonary consultative services. She spends the majority of her time managing the pulmonary and critical care fellowship training program. She manages the administration and educational components of the curriculum and rotations. She is an active bronchoscopist and supervises procedures at both Tisch and Bellevue Hospitals. Additionally, Dr. Addrizzo- Harris cares for patients with pulmonary disorders at her faculty practice office. She was awarded Teacher of the Year Award in 2000 by the fellows for her efforts.
Dr. Addrizzo-Harris was appointed as Pulmonary Section Chief at Tisch Hospital in 2003. She serves as chairperson of the pulmonary service line. She is active on the national level through the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS). She has served as Governor of New York City for the ACCP since 2003 and sits on several ACCP committees including the Marketing Committee and Health and Science Policy Committee. She has been a member of the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors since 2001 and is currently President of this organization that has more than 130 Program Directors. She is active in curriculum development on the national level for pulmonary and critical care trainees as well.
Her interests include interventional bronchoscopy, lung cancer, sarcoidosis and HIV lung diseases. She has participated in national clinical trials on transbronchial needle aspirate (TBNA) for the diagnosis of lung cancer. She has been overseeing the NYU asbestos screening project for Con Edison for the last 10 years. She has been an integral part of the NYU Lung Cancer Biomarker Center as both clinician and bronchoscopist.
Dr. Addrizzo-Harris enjoys all the time that she spends teaching and working with her fellows in the fellowship training program. She is eager to find innovative ways to further develop curriculum in the pulmonary and critical care field. She also hopes through her administrative role to continue to enhance communication between physician and clinical staff in the hospital setting.
Dr. Addrizzo-Harris is an avid runner having completed 3 NYC Marathons (PR3:51). She is an experienced skier, loves cooking and entertaining and enjoys riding her HD Softail Springer in her spare time away from work.
