Clinical Services and Treatments
Division of Medical Oncology faculty, residents, and fellows are clinically active at three major NYU teaching hospitals, serving as consults at Tisch Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, and the Veterans Affairs Hospital.
Inpatient clinical services at Tisch and Bellevue have been consolidated, and nearly all outpatient diagnostic, treatment, and prevention services are now located in the NYU Cancer Institute’s new Clinical Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art 85,000-square- foot facility on East 34th Street. The center was designed to foster multidisciplinary input in the division’s research and educational activities in the areas of breast, gynecologic, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers.
Currently, the Medical Oncology Clinic at Bellevue Hospital handles some 600 patient visits a year. Under the direction of senior oncology attending physicians, the clinic provides top-of-the-line care to patients with cancers of the lung, breast, GI tract, and other sites. The newly opened Ambulatory Oncology Clinics accommodate an even greater number of outpatient visits and increase participation in multidisciplinary patient care.
The Bellevue Cancer Center, opened in spring 2005 as part of the hospital’s new ambulatory care facility, providing integrated medical, surgical, and radiation oncology services, with each of eight clinical sessions being devoted to patients with similar cancer types, and additional sessions for preventive care and supportive oncology services for palliative care. The facility also offers on-site chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and new small-molecule–targeted therapies.
