Immune Mechanisms
Perturbations in immunity and inflammation play important roles in the pathogenesis of many kidney diseases. Work is ongoing to determine whether the development and progression of collapsing glomerulopathy, a proliferative podocytopathy that occurs in T lymphocyte-polarizing disorders, involves T helper type 1 (Th1) effector responses. Novel approaches to immunomodulate these responses are also being investigated.
