Glomerular Disease

Podocyte Biology

Laura Barisoni, M.D.

The NYU Division of Nephrology is part of a multicenter study to "bank" kidney biopsy specimens from patients with glomerular diseases that affect the podocyte. These kidney specimens are linked to a clinical database and both the kidney biopsies and clinical information will be used to address questions that relate to these diseases.

Collapsing Glomerulopathy

Peter J. Nelson, M.D.

Collapsing glomerulopathy has become an important cause of end-stage renal disease within the last two decades. Trials are being planned to determine whether directly targeting the pathogenic proliferation of renal parenchyma in collapsing glomerulopathy may benefit patients with this clinically aggressive proliferative podocytopathy.

Glomerulonephritis Consortium

Laura Barisoni, M.D.

The NYU Division of Nephrology is part of a multi-institutional glomerulornephritis consortium that will address the impact of various therapeutic interventions in randomized trials in seven different glomerular diseases. R33 grant applications will be submitted to NIDDK/NIH between March and December 2004 for new therapeutic trials including:

  1. Membranous glomerulopathy
  2. Idiopathic FSGS
  3. Recurrent FSGS in transplant
  4. IgA nephropathy
  5. Lupus nephritis
  6. ANCA associated vasculitis
  7. Chronic sclerosing renal disease
