Members of the Division are involved in the planning and participation in several multicenter cooperative trials in hemodialysis patients. Studies include:

1. the use of high dose folic acid supplementation for treatment of hyperhomocystinemia in dialysis and chronic kidney disease patients (VA Cooperative Study #453)
2. determination of the optimal hemoglobin for patients with diabetic nephropathy
3. use of erythropoiesis-stimulating proteins in renal failure
