Our second year trainees have more endoscopic and clinical responsibilities. The second year fellows spend 4 months at Bellevue, 4 months at the VA Hospital, 2 months at Tisch Hospital, including one month on our Tisch Hospital Hepatology rotation. The second year fellows, have a month of elective time and have 4 weeks of vacation.
Selection of an area of research is refined during the second year. Fellows who are interested may begin training in advanced endoscopic procedures, including ERCP and EUS, during their second year of training.
During the third year of training, fellows have a greater opportunity to focus on individualized training to optimize their transition to an academic or practice career. In addition, they spend 3 months on the Bellevue Hospital Advanced Endoscopy rotation and 1 month on the Tisch Hospital Hepatology rotation. The second and third year fellows may be offered a block of protected research time as their selected project warrants and the trainees are expected to complete their research project during the third year.
