Core Curriculum Conference
This conference takes place at the VA from 8:00 to 9:00am every Friday. At this conference, topics are discussed by the GI fellows and attendings. The core components of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition are discussed over a 3-year cycle and include physiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of GI disorders. In addition, there is a series of research project development conferences which emphasize fundamentals of study design and statistics, discussions on the progress of the ongoing fellows' research studies and potential new projects. Each fellow is required to perform an independent research project and these projects are discussed in detail during this conference.
Endoscopy Course
This conference is designed for first year fellows and takes place throughout July and August. First year fellows are taught the basics of endoscopy lab safety and principles of infection control as well as the basics of sedation, obtaining informed consent and how to care for their equipment. Techniques of endoscopy are taught by hands-on demonstrations, endoscopic image reviews and a review of the endoscopic literature. Senior fellows participate in a course on ERCP and EUS techniques over these two months.
Endoscopy Rounds
Every morning at the VA and Bellevue from 8am - 8:30am (Mondays and Thursdays) and at 9am-9:30am (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) the fellows and GI faculty review all of the endoscopic procedures from the previous day and discuss the procedures to be performed that day.
