Clinical Years

Advanced Medicine

Advanced Medicine is a four-week requirement for all fourth-year students, offered at Bellevue Hospital, Tisch Hospital, and the VA Medical Center New York. During the four weeks, students undertake the responsibilities of an intern under the direct supervision of the ward resident and faculty.

The students are assigned to a hospital ward team and work up new admissions with the ward house staff. They are on call along with the resident team, and they attend to management of patient care on the ward.

The students present their patients to the attending physicians, make daily rounds on their patients, write progress notes, participate in discussions of management and therapeutics, and attend house staff conferences. Every attempt is made during this experience to allow the student to perform fully as an intern under the constant supervision of an experienced resident.
