Internal Medicine Residency Training Program
Tisch Hospital

Tisch Hospital
A variety of disease processes are encountered at Tisch Hospital, from general concerns such as congestive heart failure and bacterial infections, to complex hematological and cardiopulmonary disorders. Housestaff manage critically ill patients under the guidance of experienced internists and subspecialists. There are also four hospitalists who are closely involved with the teaching service.
The medical teaching service is comprised of four general medicine teams, one dedicated Hematology/Oncology team, and one dedicated Cardiology team.
Most admissions come through the emergency room, with direct admissions from private physicians' offices and transfers from other institutions comprising the rest.
Every patient on the teaching service has a primary attending physician, in addition to housestaff who is responsible for the actual day-to-day care. The patients at Tisch Hospital are complex, many with multiple chronic illnesses and have often been cared for years by their primary care doctors. The house officer has a unique opportunity to learn from that relationship.
