What is SARET?
The Substance Abuse Research Education and Training (SARET) Program is an innovative initiative to educate and spur interest among NYU students from diverse disciplines about addiction and the fundamentals of clinical research.
Participants engage in a series of interactive, content-rich web-based learning modules hosted by NYU faculty experts in the field of substance abuse research, and are given opportunities to engage in stipend-supported summer-time or year-long research investigations with leading NYU substance abuse scientists across diverse disciplines.
Who Can Participate?
Students in the NYU School of Medicine, College of Dentistry and College of Nursing are eligible to participate. All participants have the opportunity to complete the online modular curriculum. Students who complete the modules will be eligible to apply for a research stipend to support mentored research at NYU in the field of substance abuse research. Participation has no bearing on academic standing.
Mentored Research Opportunities
Students will be paired with a faculty mentor actively engaged in substance abuse-related research. SARET Research Mentors are national leaders in the rapidly evolving field of addiction-related research, whose funded research ranges from dopamine transporter research to imaging studies of stimulant users to primary care-based pharmacologic treatment for heroin and prescription narcotic dependence to the role of spirituality in recovery.
