The Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research (PrMEIR) recently announced its 2009-2010 Intramural Grant recipients. Led by Dr. Sondra Zabar (Primary Care), the PrMEIR Intramural Grants Program is building institutional capacity in medical education scholarship by providing faculty with funding and technical assistance to pursue new initiatives in education and research. This year’s “Faculty Development” theme drew a record number of applications and adds four new grants to the ten funded since 2006. The Titles, Principal Investigators and Departmental Affiliations for the fourth cycle of the PrMEIR Intramural Grants, which begin September 1, 2009, are:
PI: Anne Dembitzer, MD and Margaret Horlick, MD (General Internal Medicine)
PI: Maureen McAndrew, DDS, MSEd (College of Dentistry)
PI: Alex Moroz, MD and Jaclyn Bonder, MD (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)
PI: Joshua Olstein, MD, Michael A. Poles, MD, PhD and Brian Kauffman, MD (Gastroenterology and Pulmonary/Critical Care)
Proposals were selected by committee for innovativeness of curriculum, strength of evaluation measures and potential for dissemination. The review committee was made up of faculty leaders in medical education and research (one a past Grantee) representing Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Informatics, Bellevue, Gouverneur and the Manhattan VA Hospitals, and the UME and GME Deans’ Offices.
