Dear Colleagues,
It is a pleasure to introduce Scott Braithwaite, MD, MSc, who joined the Division of General Internal Medicine faculty this week. Dr. Braithwaite is an accomplished investigator in the field of decision science, quality and cost-effectiveness. Until recently, he was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale.
Dr. Braithwaite is joining the Division to advance a program of rigorous, policy-relevant research to optimize quality and value in healthcare, incorporating methods of decision science, comparative effectiveness and cost effectiveness. In addition to his focus on improving care for chronic illness domestically, he will also continue his important international work on HIV treatment strategies in developing countries.
After attending medical school at SUNY Stony Brook and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, and three years as inpatient attending at the VA in Roseburg, Oregon, Dr. Braithwaite completed a Research Fellow in Clinical Decision Making at Tufts. After fellowship he was recruited to the University of Pittsburgh and subsequently, to Yale in 2004 as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Braithwaite has an outstanding record of funding from the NIH and other extramural sources, and is a recipient of a prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Faculty Scholar award.
At NYU, Scott will launch a new Section in the Division of General Medicine, the Section on Value and Comparative Effectiveness. The Section, which is keen on collaborative and multi-disciplinary research, will be home to additional new faculty and staff with research interests that complement those of our current faculty. Comparative effectiveness research will also be a strong focus of the Section.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Braithwaite and his group to the faculty. He can be reached at (212) 263-4964 and by email at: Scott Braithwaite.
Sincerely,
