As the newest division to be within the NYU Department of Medicine, established in 2004, we are making strides  towards our core goal of improving the health of patients seen in diverse health care settings using strategies that are both practical to implement and translatable beyond our walls.

Our portfolio of funded research addresses challenges in improving prevention and chronic disease care among urban populations, including diseases ranging from hypertension to alcohol dependence, social determinants of health including immigration and health literacy, and applications of information technology and behavior change strategies to improve health among diverse populations. 

As teachers, we offer cutting-edge programs to train tomorrow’s clinicians, investigators and educators in the complex skills required to advance health.  Programs offered range from innovative web-based initiatives for medical students to a renowned residency training program in primary care internal medicine to unique fellowships in medicine and public health research and in medical education.   Research meets education through our initiatives to improve the science of refining medical education by examining outcomes associated with specific teaching strategies. 

As clinicians, we deliver the highest quality of care to all patients, across diverse urban practice settings that include our exceptional Tisch Hospital, the legendary Bellevue Hospital Center, the Veteran’s Affairs NY Harbor Healthcare System, a magnificent array of affiliated practices led by our talented faculty, and diverse community-based sites as well.
