Advanced Fellowship Training in Cardiology

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Training Program

The Division of Cardiology offers an ACGME-approved fellowship training program in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Our goal is to train future leaders in academic cardiac electrophysiology. Toward that end, we offer numerous research opportunities in basic, translational and clinical electrophysiology, including basic cellular and molecular studies, genetically engineered arrhythmia models, large animal studies, human genetic studies and numerous other clinical research trials.

Trainees seeking investigative careers will identify a mentor and devote substantial dedicated time towards completion of a research project, ultimately leading to grant funding. Accordingly, depending upon their background and prior experience, many fellows will spend a total of 3 years involved in cardiac electrophysiology training, equally divided between research and clinical realms. The final clinical year is accredited by the ACGME and its successful completion will lead to eligibility for the ABIM Certifying Examination in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Individuals interested in advanced training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology should contact Dr. Larry Chinitz, Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and the NYU Heart Rhythm Center.

Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Training Program

The Division of Cardiology offers ACGME-approved fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology.  For those individuals primarily interested in acquiring the clinical knowledge-base and procedural skills to function as outstanding interventional cardiologists, we provide one year of intensive training that leads to expertise in coronary and peripheral diagnostics and interventions, analysis of congenital heart disease, as well as exposure to additional modalities such as percutaneous valvuloplasty, device-based valvular repair, ASD/PFO closure and various experimental treatments undergoing evaluation through clinical research trials.   We also offer a two year clinical investigator track that provides substantially more dedicated time for clinical and translational research endeavors.  This track is designed for those ultimately seeking full-time positions at research intensive academic medical centers.  The second year of training is accredited by the ACGME and its successful completion will lead to eligibility for the ABIM Certifying Examination in Interventional Cardiology.  Candidates for this track may wish to pursue the NYU Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation degree program, with its relevant course work in biostatistics and clinical trial design.  Candidates for the Interventional Cardiology Training Program should contact Dr. Frederick Feit, Director, Training Program in Interventional Cardiology.
