Clinician-Educator Pathway

This three-year training experience is designed to prepare individuals for careers as outstanding academic cardiovascular consultants and educators. During the first two years of the program, trainees will acquire the clinical knowledge-base and procedural skills to function as outstanding consultative cardiovascular specialists. During the third year of the program, fellows will refine their skills as cardiovascular consultants and gain additional expertise in one or several specific areas of cardiovascular medicine, such as heart failure, vascular medicine, non-invasive imaging or preventive cardiology.
At the end of the three-year period, trainees will have completed all of the requirements of our ACGME-accredited Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease and will be eligible to sit for the ABIM Certifying Examination. Depending upon their selection of rotations, trainees may also be eligible to sit for examinations offered by the National Board of Echocardiography and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.
Individuals choosing this pathway may apply for additional training in an ACGME-approved program in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology or Interventional Cardiology, seek a fourth year of intensive training in Heart Failure or Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging (a joint training program with the Department of Radiology), or develop a career in clinical/translational investigation, which may include participation in our NIH funded Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation program. Individuals with questions about the Clinician-Educator Pathway should contact Dr. Barry Rosenzweig, Director, Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease.
This pathway utilizes the National Resident Subspecialty Match Program and applications are coordinated through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
