NYU Cardiology recognized as one of top programs in nation

NYU Cardiology was recognized as one of the top “Heart and Heart Surgery” programs in the country in U.S. News & World Report’s 2009 ranking of America’s Best Hospitals. Our program ranked 11th in the country, moving up significantly from the year before.  Rankings were based on reputation, including the responses of a random sample of board-certified specialists who were asked to list the five hospitals they think are the best in their specialty.  In addition, data on mortality, patient safety, key technologies and patient services were included in the metrics.

For the first time ever, NYU Langone Medical Center made the “Honor Roll” in this year's annual survey. Only 21 of the more than 4,000 hospitals analyzed – less than two-fifths of one percent – achieved honor roll status. To be on the “Honor Roll” hospitals must be ranked at or near the top in at least six medical specialties.

“This recognition highlights a tradition of excellence at NYU Langone Medical Center and serves as yet another reminder of how excellence and innovation can come together to make our institution one of the best in the nation,” said Dr. Robert I. Grossman, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Medical Center. “Our inclusion in the “Honor Roll” is especially rewarding, as it speaks to the dedication and medical expertise of our physicians, nurses, and staff and their unwavering commitment to the highest standards of patient care - we congratulate them all for their tremendous contributions and for receiving this outstanding recognition.”
