In 2004, after a year's worth of work with the School of Medicine Information Technology Division, the BLR introduced a new online submission process that has significantly reduced the deluge of paper submissions. A year after the debut of this unique web-based system for submission - http://tools.med.nyu.edu/BLROnline - and review, electronic submissions now constitute more than 60 percent of all submissions. Reviewers can now read manuscripts on their home computers, enabling the BLR to enlarge its network of reviewers.
Independent of the online submission database, the BLR has created its own website www.BLReview.org Developed by Danielle Ofri and Benjamin Akman, the site features excerpts from each of the issues, news about the BLR, as well as biographies of all of the writers and editors. Single copies and subscriptions to the BLR can now be purchased on its website as well as in bookstores and by mail.
