Notes:

  • Presentations should follow the published departmental guidelines for format. Discussions should demonstrate thorough understanding of pathophysiology and differential diagnosis. Advanced physical examination skill should be directly observed. Each teaching attending physician assigns a value independently; the average of the attendings’ values is weighted at 20% of the grade.
  • Write-ups should follow the published departmental guidelines for format. Each teaching attending physician assigns a value independently; the average of the attendings’ values is weighted at 20% of the grade.
  • Involvement in patient care activities on the ward should demonstrate thoughtful attention to each patient’s course, and active participation in developing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Each ward resident and Chief resident who have interaction with the student assigns a value independently; the average of those values is weighted at 20% of the grade.
  • Scholarly participation is expected at the Core Conferences, Firm Chief Rounds, all the Saturday conferences, and the Clinicopathological Conferences. The Firm Chief is responsible for gathering the information to assign a value for these activities.
  • Written examination will be scored according to established national guidelines.
  • A formal essay is required for satisfactory completion of the Medicine clerkship, although the essay will not be part of the actual grade. If an acceptable essay is not submitted, the clerkship grade will be "Incomplete" or "Fail." Awards will be given for those essays rated best by a committee of reviewers.
