The Center sponsors seminars and conferences on the interrelationship
between health and human rights. In 1999, the Center assisted in beginning
the first student chapter in the United States of Physicians for Human
Rights, and subsequently sponsored a national conference on health and
human rights attended by more than 300 medical students and medical
school faculty from all over the country.
This past year, through the NYU School of Medicine Master Scholars Program,
a seminar was conducted on advocacy and medicine. The goal of this seminar
was to explore the role of physicians as advocates for promoting health
and social justice.
