The Immigration Services Department oversees the Medical Center¡¦s compliance
with Immigration laws and regulations. This includes assisting faculty and
staff with Employee Immigration Strategy, New York City Orientation, Tax Treaty
Analysis, and Employment Visa Processing for all new hires, extensions, transfers,
and employees with status changes.
Visa categories that the Immigration department directly monitors include
"J-1-Exchange Visitor", "H-1B-Specialty Worker", and "TN-Professionals under
the North America Free Trade Agreement". O Visas and green card applications
are monitored by Immigration Services, but prepared by outside counsel.
It is important for hiring managers to discuss visa classifications with
Immigration Services prior to offering employment to any foreign candidate
in order to first ensure that all requirements are met.
