Welcome!
The NYU School of
Medicine Curriculum Subcommittee has developed this site in response
to a charge by the NYU SOM Graduate Medical Education Committee. That
charge was to provide information and educational opportunities that
are relevant to house staff officers across programs, targeted and easily
accessible, and that complement departmental training activities.
What
is System-Based Practice (SBP)?
System-Based Practice
is a model of health care delivery that optimizes both resources and
outcomes. It promotes a basic understanding of the complex operational,
regulatory, and fiscal parameters of the various hospital and health
care systems (i.e., the connections between patients, providers, payors,
and governing bodies). Your operational understanding of SBP will ultimately
guide your practice and highlight systemic improvements that can be
made to enhance the safety, efficiency, access, cost, and overall patient
and provider experience.
