5) Who is eligible for care, and whom may I contact regarding a patient's eligibiltiy?

Bellevue Hospital

  • Bellevue Hospital Center mission is to provide care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. To determine a patient's eligibility contact the Business Office @ 562-3020.

Tisch Hospital

  • Any patient who meets standard medical necessity criteria for acute or intermediate levels of care or ambulatory services available at Tisch, for whom we can verify a method of payment (insurance, self-payment, or charity care as approved by the NYUHC Charity Care Committee).

VA Medical Center

  • While the VA can provide a range of services to veterans, not all veterans are eligible for all VA services. For example, the VA only provides chronic care in VA nursing homes to those who need nursing home care for a disability caused by military service or those who are rated over 70% disabled for any military-related condition. VA social workers and nurses arrange for services using combinations of VA services and other benefits. Often this involves assisting veterans in applying for Medicaid, Medicare, and SSI. The VA cannot bill Medicare or Medicaid but can bill other third party insurers for services rendered to veterans; this is one source of revenue that the VAs depend on for their budgets.
