All NYU employees including
housestaff are eligible for membership to the University’s
Athletic Centers – The Palladium Athletic Facility
and the Jerome S. Coles Sports and Recreation Center. Membership
fees are based on an academic calendar from September through
August. Prorated fees are available for individuals
who are joining after September. Membership allows
housestaff to access both the Palladium and Coles Sports
and Recreation Center. Annual membership for
NYU Housestaff for the 2005-2006 academic year is $375. Prices
are subject to change for 2006-2007.
The Palladium Athletic

The Palladium features:
-An L-shaped, aerodynamically designed pool with lap swimming
and a diving pool.
-A 3,140 square-foot weight room complete with free weights
and a FitLinxx workout system
-A 3,433 square-foot aerobic fitness room dedicated to cardio
equipment, including treadmills, elliptical trainers, and
exercycles
-A regulation size basketball court.
-A spinning room.
-Popular classes such as spinning, yoga, and belly dancing.
-A 30-foot-high indoor climbing center (temporarily closed
for construction)
-A lounge area, which overlooks both the pool and the main
gym area, with two flat-screen plasma TVs, a snack bar, and
a pro-shop that sells NYU athletic merchandise.
Jerome S. Coles Sports and Recreation Center

Coles features:
- A 1/6-mile, three-lane, rooftop running track
- A multipurpose fieldhouse/arena with five courts for
basketball, volleyball, tennis, and badminton.
- A natatorium with an NCAA regulation swimming pool and
diving tank
- Five squash courts and five handball/racquetball courts
- A large, modern weight-training room.
- Individual rooms for wrestling/judo, fencing, physical
fitness/calisthenics, dance, and exercise prescription
instruction.
- A rock climbing wall.
Rubin Hall
There is a 24 hour work-out room located in the basement
of Rubin Hall (one of the school of medicine residences).
This gym is equipped with stairmasters, bikes, treadmills,
and a variety of Nautilus machines and free weights.
Membership can be obtained at the Students Activities Office
(212) 263-5647 and costs approximately $130 per year.
Private Gyms
There are several private gyms in the neighborhood surrounding
the medical center including New York Sports Club and Crunch
Fitness. The Recreation Department at the Office
of Organizational Development and Learning has negotiated
reduced rate memberships at Crunch Fitness.
