Costs and Fees:
Coverage depends on what health insurance you have.

IF YOU ARE ON NYU'S HEALTH PLAN (UNITED): United will pay for 50% of "what is reasonable and customary" for each visit, up to 30 visits a year. This is in- or out-of-network, and "reasonable and customary" for NYC is about $175 per hour for a psychiatrist.

> Is there a hospital gym I can use?

> What are my options for psychotherapy?

IF YOU ARE ON BELLEVUE'S HEALTH PLAN: your health insurance will cover 50% of "what is reasonable and customary" up to $3,000, and then 80% after that up to $5,000. The maximum benefit per year is $5,000.

Finding a Psychiatrist or Psychotherapist:
Courtesy consultations and affordable psychotherapy for house officers, their spouses and children, are being offered through the Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY). PANY is composed primarily of graduate psychoanalysts, mainly psychiatrists, but also psychologists and social workers. Most have received their training at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute, a component of the Department of Psychiatry of the NYU School of Medicine. Many are former residents and/or current faculty of the department. PANY has an allegiance to the medical school and an interest in being of service to young physicians and their families.

Affordable psychotherapy means no one will be turned away from recommended psychotherapy because of a fee issue. Your PANY practitioner will work with you to establish an affordable fee.

The listing of participating members can be found at: http://resweb.med.nyu.edu/affordablepsych.html

If you would like further information about consultations with PANY, call Robert M. Chalfin, MD, at (212)995-9764 or David Frank, MD, at (212)986-2500, co-chairmen of PANY's Committee on Practice. For further information about PANY itself, you may access the website at www.psa.med.nyu.edu/pany/index.html, or call the Institute at (212)263-6243.

Your health care plan can also provide you with a list of in-network providers if you would prefer to go outside of the NYU system.
