I have a pager problem. What should I do?

General
As an incoming NYU resident, you will be assigned a personal long-range USA Mobility (formerly named Arch Wireless) one-way numeric pager that will accompany you throughout your residency years at NYU.  You are expected to carry this pager at all times, when at work in the hospital, when taking home-call, and when covering sick-call. Upon completion of your residency you are required to return your pager to the NYU Medical Center (NYUMC) Communications Department (for directions, see below).

Receiving Your Pager
You will receive your pager when the Security Department issues your NYU identification card (during orientation). Alternatively, you can pick up your pager from the NYUMC Communications Department.

Pager range
Your pager will receive pages when carried within the five boroughs of New York, and within some regions of up-state New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Philadelphia.
For the New York City coverage map, please go to: http://maps.arch.com/htmlmap?MDF=mapid989.mdf
When out of New York City, it is best to page yourself and verify that you are within your pager’s range.

Broken / lost pagers
Broken and lost pagers will be replaced at the NYUMC Communications Department. There is a $35 fee for replacing a lost pager.

Replacing batteries
Your pager has a “low battery” indicator. To avoid missing pages, promptly replace the battery when your pager indicates that the battery is running low. Batteries can be obtained free of charge, 24 hours a day, at the NYUMC Communications Department, and at the Bellevue Communications Department (for directions, see below).
