Where do I get computer passwords, including PACS?
NYU has a rich resource of information technology available to us. You will soon come to rely on these critical systems to complete your day-to-day work efficiently. Therefore, it is important to be sure that you have the appropriate accounts set up and accessible to you prior to your first day of work.

Several months before your arrival you will receive a welcome packet from the House Staff Affairs office containing your Kerberos ID and password. The Kerberos ID is your “key” to NYU resources. It allows you to access e-mail and Resweb, the resident web portal.

You will be similarly provided with usernames and passwords to log onto the HIS at both NYU and Bellevue. At Bellevue, you will also be given a hardware “key” to log onto the workstations. Each hospital has its own training programs which you will complete prior to starting in July –- expect to receive information regarding times and dates from House Staff Affairs.

E-Mail:
NYU uses a POP3 mail system that is accessible from both dedicated mail clients (Outlook, Yahoo POP access and Eudora) and by a web interface: www.med.nyu.edu/imp

Your e-mail address is your Kerberos ID followed by med.nyu.edu, therefore if your kerberos ID is doej01, your e-mail address is doej01@med.nyu.edu.

IMPORTANT!! While many of us have alternate e-mail addresses, the medical center only recognizes the address they have provided (med.nyu.edu) and will therefore communicate only through the popmail system. Additionally, popmail is the only system authorized for the transmittal of confidential patient information due to HIPAA regulations.

PACS:
For those of you who will require access to the radiology resources at Bellevue Hospital, you will need to obtain a Phillips Easy Web or PACS account. These accounts are created by the PACS system administrators after approval by the Bellevue Hospital Radiology administration. Forms will have been sent to you in your welcome package from House Staff Affairs. Be sure to fill them out carefully. The Bellevue PACS office can be reached at 212-562-7810.

Individual PACS accounts at Tisch hospital are not necessary. You will have access to all images and reports through the HIS and EDR; HIS will soon be replaced by the Integrated Clinical Information System – more information about this new system is soon to be released.

Bellevue Internet Accounts:
The Health and Hospitals Corporation of NYC requires a separate account for internet access at Bellevue Hospital. These accounts are not automatically created and you need to apply for one. Contact the Bellevue help desk at 212-562-3400 for more information.

If you have a technical problem that needs attention, please call the respective help desk for the institution or system you are accessing.
