Payroll
Most residency programs require that residents rotate to one or more facilities. For this reason, a resident's payroll source and benefits plan may also change. In many cases, residents will spend a portion of time on the NYU Hospitals Center payroll (covered by the NYUHC employee benefits package), and a portion of time on the Bellevue Hospital payroll (covered by the Bellevue/New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation) employee benefits package). There are however, numerous exceptions to this model. Your residency department and the House Staff Affairs Office can help you with any questions related to this process.
Residents on the NYU Hospital payroll are paid bi-weekly.Payroll is distributed to the departments on the Thursday and Friday that the check is issued, and may be picked up (at the department) by the individual.
Direct deposit is also available and is recommended. Direct Deposit paystubs from NYUHC are mailed to the departments on payday.
Residents on the Bellevue Hospital payroll should consult with their residency program or the Bellevue Hospital House Staff Affairs Office for payroll information.

Resident/Clinical Fellows are expected to download the application for J-1 sponsorship from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) website. The House Staff Affairs Office will then review the application and secure the signature of the Training Program Liaison. When signed, the application will be returned to the applicant for submission to the ECFMG.

The House Staff Councils The House Staff Council is an elected body of residents and fellows whose purpose is:
-
to serve as an advisory body to the Dean of NYU School of Medicine;
-
to foster communication with school and hospital administration;
-
to exchange information among residents and between programs;
-
to provide an alternate process to address resident concerns; and
-
to represent the house staff at Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) meetings.
As active members of the GMEC, council members provide input into hospital policymaking, and represent the concerns of the more than 1,000 residents and fellows. Council members participate in GMEC subcommittees such as: Housing, Policy, Curriculum, and Technology. Members on the House Staff Well Being subcommittee also work to provide mediation and conflict resolution for the House Staff.
New members are elected annually. For further information contact the House Staff Affairs Office.
