Orthopaedic Surgery 
Orthopaedic patient care provided by the Hospital for Joint Diseases’ Department of Orthopaedic Surgery follows the highest professional standards in evaluating and treating both in-hospital patients and those who attend our clinics and make use of our emergency services. HJD faculty includes world-renowned surgeons working to treat a wide variety of orthopaedic and rheumatologic conditions. Areas of specialty include trauma and fractures, adult reconstructive surgery, hip and knee replacement, spine surgery, sports medicine, hand and wrist disorders, musculoskeletal oncology, foot and ankle care, shoulder and elbow problems, minimally invasive surgery of hip, knee, shoulder and spine, robotic-assisted joint replacement and pediatric orthopaedics.
Rheumatology is the subspecialty field of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics devoted to the care of patients with rheumatic diseases. HJD is devoted to the care of patients with clinical problems involving joints, soft tissues and the combined conditions of connective tissues. Conditions treated include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, pediatric rheumatology and Lyme disease.
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation 
Rehabilitation care at HJD is provided by the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, ranked best rehabilitation hospital in New York and among the top ten in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its annual "Best Hospitals" rankings for more than 20 years. Rusk’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program is a center of innovation and excellence for the treatment of disabling neurological and neurocognitive disorders and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) as an inpatient specialty program in Brain Injury Rehabilitation offering highly effective, interdisciplinary, individualized care. In addition, Rusk’s Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Unit at HJD is a center of excellence for the rehabilitation of muskuloskeletal disorders and injuries.
The anesthesiology team at HJD provides anesthesia for orthopaedic procedures using state-of-the-art techniques and technology. We pride ourselves on administering safe anesthesia for the broad array of routine and challenging cases that we see at this leading orthopaedic institution, including care for patients undergoing major spine surgery, joint replacement, reconstructive orthopaedic surgery, extremity surgery and surgery for all orthopaedic subspecialty areas. Our department includes specialists in regional and pediatric anesthesia, as well as pain management physicians, who pay close attention to the post-operative comfort of all of our varied patients. We also excel in the handling of complex spine and total joint arthroplasty procedures.
HJD provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with neurological disorders. Our outstanding clinical staff includes specialists in multiple sclerosis, pain management, spine and nerve pain, attention deficit disorder and cerebral palsy. Our Neurorehabilitation and Traumatic Brain Injury programs are centers of innovation and excellence for the treatment of neurobehavioral disorders. Additionally, the Initiative for Women with Disabilities is a center committed to providing high quality medical, gynecological and wellness programs promoting services for women with disabilities and chronic conditions in a fully accessible environment. We also provide multidisciplinary treatment to both children and adults with ADD at our Attention Deficit Disorder Center.
HJD provides complete inpatient and outpatient diagnostic orthopaedic radiology services, including MRI, computed tomography, ultrasonography and conventional radiography, as well as a multitude of musculoskeletal interventional procedures. Our neurointerventional specialist also performs the highly effective new vertebroplasty (a medical spinal repair procedure) for treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures. The faculty includes several internationally known musculoskeletal radiologists with expertise in all aspects of osteo-radiology.
The Department of Nursing offers advanced and specialized care in orthopaedics, rheumatology and neurology.
