Psychiatric-Mental Health Care
Our mental health team includes a psychologist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, occupational therapist, neuropsychologist, and social worker. This program includes psychiatric assessments, cognitive rehabilitation, medication management, supportive psychotherapy, integration of medical and psychiatric management, and referral to community-based mental health services or other mental health programs at the Center.
COME-HEAR (Cognitive and Mental Health Evaluation, Assessment, and Remediation)
COME-HEAR is a program for the MS patient who has many different symptoms. These individuals often can benefit from the services of many of our staff members. Participation in this program offers the opportunity for an intensive team approach to address each of the symptoms the patient is experiencing.
PACT (Performing Arts Through Complimentary Tickets)
The PACT program, working with Hospital Audiences Incorporated (HAI), provides patients with complimentary tickets to various art performances in the five boroughs. This program was developed to assist individuals living with MS gain access to cultural events, increase social experiences, and help them reintegrate into the community while living with a disability. Previous groups have included Shakespeare plays in the park, ballets, operas, concerts, and many other performances.
GRASP (Group for Community Reintegration Through the Arts for Socially Isolated Patients)
GRASP is a program which serves the dual purpose of attempting community reintegration while providing a place for individuals in similar situations to socialize with one another and learn strategies for reintegrating into their communities. The group meets quarterly for a Broadway musical, lunch, and a formal group OT intervention.
LACE (Living and Caring for Each Other)
The LACE program involves high school and college students who volunteer their time and services in the community with MS patients who are isolated or need assistance in social situations. This program is geared toward improving quality of life.
iWill (Individuals Seeking Wellness Through Integrated Lectures and Lounging)
This program focuses on themes related to the wellness of individuals living with MS, including self-image and awareness, relationships, parenting, employment, and life planning. iWill is quarterly, and will begin in the Winter of 2006.
The program will consist of a keynote lecture, discussion groups, therapeutic activities (e.g., massage, manicure, make-over), therapeutic classes (e.g., yoga, reiki, meditation), a luncheon, and a take home gift bag (e.g., cosmetics, spa products, journals, books).
